Blutbert – The Zombie Cake
Blutbert is made from a savory potato mixture encased in a layer of egg white. After cooking, the Halloween cake is transformed step-by-step into a spooky figure using food coloring and sugar decorations.
Steps at a Glance
• Line a large sieve with plastic wrap.
• Pour in a layer of egg white and cook for about 5 minutes.
• Add the potato mixture and then cover it with more egg white.
• Simmer everything for about 30 minutes and let it rest for a few more minutes afterwards.
• Carefully invert onto a plate and remove the plastic wrap.
• After cooling, decorate with food coloring, candy eyes, and Halloween decorations.
• Slice and serve as a savory Halloween cake.
The Result
With just a few ingredients, Blutbert is created – a savory zombie cake for Halloween. It can be sliced before serving and is perfect for Halloween parties and buffets.
My Tip
Don’t rely solely on the cooking time, but check whether the surface is already completely firm. Let the Halloween cake sit for a few more minutes in the pot and let it cool down for at least an hour before decorating. Only decorate and cut into pieces afterwards.
